9 Africans Executed
(N.Z. Prejs A*»n.—Copyright? PRETORIA, May 31. Nine Africans were executed at the Central Prison in Pretoria yesterday for the murder of a white shopkeeper in September, 1962, at Wellington, Cape Province. This is the second highest number of persons executed for one crime in South Africa. In 1957, 22 Africans were hanged for murdering three white policemen in Natal. The shopkeeper, Mr Maurice Berger, was hacked to death in his store, and his 17-year-old assistant seriously injured.
