MID-AIR CRASH
Canterbury Man Dead (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter— Copyright > SINGAPORE. May 31. A high-level inquiry Into the mid-air collision of two R.A.F. all-weather Javelin fighter* began in Singapore this morning less than 24 hours after the crash had killed two airmen. The two-man crew of one j Javelin was killed but the 1 crew of the other delta : wing fighter ejected after the collision and parachuted to safety. I One of those killed was the I pilot. Flying Officer William I Kay, aged 21, single, son of IMr and Mrs W. L. Kay, of Leithfield Beach, Canterbury. New Zealand. The other was Corporal Kenneth Ashbee. married, of Cowplain, Hampshire, England. An R.A.F. spokesman said that members of the investigation team had gone to Jphore to study the wreckage, which has been under allnight police guard. Preliminary investigations have shown that the accident occurred shortly after the aircraft had taken off from the Tengah station on a routine training flight
