High Society, unbeaten in three hurdles races so far, was far from impressive when he schooled over steeplechase fences at Awapuni yesterday. The Foxton jumper was no match for Foxoman which led him over three of the big fences.

He then won the Gloaming Stakes at Trentham In May, when the track was cutting out.

He Is now threatening the New Zealand-bred Fulmen (4 to 1) for favouritism in the second leg of the big Brisbane double. Besides the straight-out backing, Del Charro was extensively coupled in doubles with most of the Stradbroke fancies. His trainer, T. J. Smith, who went to 25,009 dollars to secure Del Charro for the part-owners, Mr and Mrs S. Fox, rates the three-year-old one of the best staying prospects to come to Australia from New Zealand.
