TREBLE TO RACE AGAIN

"The Press’’ Special Service _ „ , HAMILTON. Treble, the jumping find of last winter, has almost fully recovered from a severe Injury which he suffered in the Winter Hurdles Handicap at Trentham on Judy 13, 1966. He severed the tendons in his off fore-leg and It was only through the persistence of bls jockey, P. B. Wilson, that he was not destroyed. Wilson insisted that the life of Treble be spared so that an effort could be made to nurse him back to health.

The road to recovery has been a long one for Treble, which stayed at Wellington for many weeks before he could travel back to Matangi, where he is trained by L. and B. Bob. inson. He had his leg encased in a specdally-buHt plaster cast, designed by a Wellington veterinary surgeon and he wore this for several months.

Treble came into prominence at this time 12 months ago, when he won the Taupo Jumpers Flat at Rotorua. He then won on each of the three days of the Great Northern carnival, bis successes being gained in the Hunt Hurdles, which he won by 18 lengths; the Bemuera Hurdles, in which Ms winning margin was 25 lengths; and the Campbell Hurffies, in which the second horse. Corad Beef, finished eight lengths beMnd him.

Treble improved tremendously on the flat with hie fine form over hurdles, and before contesting the Winter Hurdles he ran second to Gus in the £3OOO Parliamentary Handicap, at Trentham on July 13. Treble, a gelding by Targul from Net, will be kept In work for a month by the Robinsons. It is then planned to give him to a Tahuna sheep farmer, Mr D. Balme, to use for lambing over the until he Is brought back Into work again for next winter's big events.
