Parliament’s Diary
The Sale of Liquor Amendment Bill and the Stock Remedies Bill were introduced and read a first time when Parliament resumed yesterday afternoon. The Stock Remedies Bill received a pro forma second reading and was referred to the Lands and Agricultural Committee. Papers tabled Included the annual reports of the National Research Advisory Council and the New Zealand Wool Testing Authority.
Parliament started 20 minutes late because of a State luncheon, at which the former Prime Minister of Australia (Sir Robert Menzies) was guest of honour. He later spent some time in the House.
Four members gave notices of motions. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) gave notice of a motion on the European Common Market, which the House will debate today.
Urgency was then taken on the Customs Acts Amendment Bill, the Transport Amendment Bill, the Social Security Amendment Bill and the War Pensions Amendment Bill.
