32ND TO SIXTH

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A) LONDON. The New Zealand rider, D. R. Thomson, finished sixth in the second stage of the 14-day Tour of Britain cycle race on Monday. The stage was won by L. West (Britain), who was second in Sunday’s 95mile ride from Worthing to Swindon. Thomson said he was very pleased with his effort, after his “disheartening” thirty-second placing on the first day. “Unfortunately, I got caught up in the bunch and when the breaks came, I missed them. The racing here is fairly fierce in comparison with that in New Zealand.” His only mishap to date was at the end of Tuesday’s run when he ran into the back of a car while handing a drinking bottle to another rider.
