HARRIER CLUBS WARNED
Harrier clubs have been warned not to lay trails for club runs through private properties without first obtaining permission. Clubs have been reminded also not to lay paper trails through streets in urban areas.
These requests have been made by the Canterbury Cross-country running committee of the Canterbury Athletics Centre in a circular to clubs. The notice says that the committee has already had one complaint and “that is one too many.” Apparently not all clubs are completely satisfied with an earlier decision of the committee to hold three major races in succession over the same course.
In an effort to speed up Canterbury harriers a search was made this year for flatter and faster courses. As a result, it was decided to transfer the Jane Patterson and the Canterbury championship events from Ashley to Queen Elizabeth H park, already the venue for the Kennett Cup races. Among the remits to be submitted to the half-yearly meeting of club delegates on June 7 is one from the Marist club asking for the Jane
Patterson trophy event to be transferred to another venue to give added variety to the racing. programme. Another change proposed for the racing programme is that the committee’s annual relays at Rawhiti Domain on August 12 should be changed to a block road relay from the same venue.
