Small-Arms Shop Fire Kills Six

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) PHILADELPHIA, May 30. Six persons were killed and two others injured critically yesterday when an explosion and fire destroyed a sporting goods shop specialising in custom-made shotgun shells in Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania.

The bodies of four men, a woman and a child were recovered from the ruins. The police said the explosion occurred when the owner of the shop, one of the dead, was testing a .45 calibre pistol. They said he fired two shots which were followed by a flash, an explosion, and the fire. A woman and a man ran from the building, their

clothes on fire. The woman died shortly afterward. The fire then detonated small arms ammunition which touched off a large explosion that razed the building. Firemen continued to sift through the wreckage during the night in the search for bodies. Floodlights were set up and a bulldozer plowed through the smouldering debris.
