POISONS SALE
Register Of Licensees
“Statements made by, the defence solicitor in a recent prosecution under the Poisons Act, 1960, and reported in The Press’ on Friday, implied that the Health Department did not know who held poisons licences; but nothing could be further from the truth,” the supervising inspector of health in Christchurch (Mr J. B. Snoad) said yesterday.
“Not only are all poisons licences issued by the district registrar but a complete register of all licence holders in that health district is' kept at each district office,” Mr Snoad said.
"The Poisons Act defines a sale by wholesale of a poison or poisonous substance as meaning a sale for the purposes of resale whether in an unaltered state or otherwise. The Act further requires that a wholesale licensee , shall only sell a poison to a person who is licensed or is otherwise lawfully entitled to sell that poison," he said.
Mr Snoad said the wholesale licensee could either ask for the production of a licence by the purchaser, examine the register kept by the department, or require the purchaser to furnish his licence number, to ensure that he was in fact supplying to a licensed parson.
