SMALL HITCH

Only one hitch was encountered when half a million pounds was shifted by the Bank of New Zealand from its temporary premises across Cathedral square to its new building on the corner of Colombo and Hereford streets on Saturday—bank officials could not open the main strongroom door.

The assistant manager of the branch (Mr R. W. Mear) said that air pressures within the strongroom caused a vacuum while the air conditioning system was switched off.

The problem caused only a temporary delay.

The move was co-ordin-ated by bank officers with walkie-talkie radio sets, and a well-armed security escort and five police officers were responsible for tiie safety of tile coin and notes which were taken by van to the bank’s new premises. The premises officer (Mr K. Mahin), who was supervising the shift in the new building, said that everything was ready to start today.
