A VISIT TO H.M.N.Z.S. WAIKATO, then in San Diego, California, was a “must” for 10-year-old Michael Wright, who is shown seated in the new frigate’s helicopter. With him is Lieutenant J. A. Carnie, R.N.Z.N, of Christchurch. Michael Wright, a Hamilton boy, recently won a toy competition sponsored by Lincoln Industries of New Zealand, and his prize was a return trip by Air New Zealand to the United States for himself and his parents. The family decided to visit the Waikato, which has been adopted by their home town, after meeting several of the ship’s company at Disneyland.
