MARIST SHOWS BEST FORM OF SEASON

MARIST 1*: I. Mene, P. Robertson, E. Hobbs, tries;' A. Dalton and B. McAlister conversions, Mene and McAlister, penalty goals. LINCOLN COLLICK 11: C. Fox, a try; A. Warren, two penalty goals, and a conversion. Displaying probably its best form of the season, Marist scored a good win against Lincoln College. Under-foot conditions were heavy at Denton Oval but the game contained plenty of action for a handful of spectators. Play was torrid in the forwards. particularly in the latter stages. The Marist forwards’ ability to control the ball better and the quickness of its backs to capitalise on its opponents’ mistakes were the deciding factors in a well-deserved win. Marist held the inlative in the first spell, with its forwards driving through and gaining good possession. Lincoln staged a recovery In the second half as its forwards started to assert themselves and Marist appeared a little rattled. However, Marist gradually regained control in the for-

wardsand Robertson' and then Hobbs scored tries Hobbs capitalised on a Lincoin dropped pass to scurry away from 30 yards out to score under the posts. The outstanding forwards on the field were Marists' A. Wilson and Uncoin's A. McLellan. Both hunted the ball relentlessly and did much useful work on defence. P. Dolg and J. Burns were a tower of strength to Marist in the tight and T. McKendry and O. stopforth were prominent in the loose. W. Chalmers and D. Cross were the pick of the Lincoln pack, apart from McLeUan. In the Marist backs, B. McAlister at full-back was in fine form. His positional play and handling were excellent. Robertson dictated play expertly and a feature of his play was his high up-and-under, which always tested the Lincoln defence. The Uncoln backs suffered through dropped passes but they tried to open up play at every opportunity. S. Murray was a sound full-back and M. Goddard was a competent first five-eighths. Referee: Mr D. M. Ramson.
