Boer War Peace Service

Ten veterans of the Boer War and two nurses attended a wreath-laying ceremony In Victoria square yesterday afternoon to mark the aixtyflfth anniversary of the signing of the Boer War Peace Treaty in 1902. Forty-three members of the Boer War Veterans’ Association live in Christ-

church and 470 in New Zealand. Wreaths were laid by Mr B. Simmons, for ' the Boer War Veterans’ Association, Captain J. K. Collins, for the Regimental Association, and the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) for the city. A short service was conducted by the Rev. X

F. Feron, a former R.N.V.R. chaplain. The parade in Victoria square was led by the Christchurch Garrison Band (bandmaster Captain D. L Williams) and the band later gave a concert at Jeilicoe HalL The ages of the veterans who attended ranged from 82-91.
