Mixed Marriages

A survey of North Island Maori homes showed a surprisingly high percentage of Maoris married to Europeans, says the Maori Affairs Department. The average for the North Island was 12 per cent of all marriages, varying from 7 per cent in Gisborne to 19 per cent in Palmerston North. Nearly twice as many Maori airls as Maori men married Europeans.—(P A.).
