Institute of Agriculture. A new Department of Agronomy was created recently and the present staff consists of a Professor, a Senior Lecturer and a Lecturer. The Department has Interests in crop-environment relationships and Is active In legume and cereal breeding. The Department plans to extend Its teaching and research activities. The fields and background sought are in the general areas of: (a) Crop Physiology. Either in (I) the water relations ot plants: or (II) the carbohydrate metabolism ot plants. (b) Crop Micrometeorology, in the same area of energy of crops. (e) Agricultural Climatology. To determine lengths of growing season, drought frequencies, etc. Applications are invited tram graduates appropriately qualified tn any ot the above-named fields. One position at the level of Reader or fienlor Lecturer is available immediately. It is anticipated that a further two Eosltlons as Lecturer/Senior ecturer will become available later this year. The salary for a Reader to 3ABMO p.a. and the ranges for Senior Lecturer and Lecturer are 8A4800—7400 and 3A4304 4340 p.a., respectively. Superannuation will ba similar to F.S.S.U. in all cases. The appointees will be expected to develop teaching and research in their fields and can expect support to do this. The Department ot Agronomy is one of the four major groups in the Institute of Agriculture within the University, the others being Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, Animal Production and Agricultural Economics.
