MARKET IN BALANCE AT CLOSE OF TRADING

The share market was in balance yesterday as New Zealand stock exchanges closed the week’s trading. The overseas list was firm, but the New Zealand list was slightly easier, with leading stocks setting the trend.

Trading activity in the whole of the country was average, but the Christchurch turn-over of almost 27,000 was the heaviest of the week.

Hamersley shares sold 3d higher, to 395, in Wellington. Several parcels of contributing shares were sold in Christchurch at prices ranging from 310 c to 320 c, more in line with the overseas price. B.H.P. recovered 9d of recent losses to sell at 68s fid, and E. Z. Industries stood out with a rise of 3s fid, to 22s fid. A.N.Z. Bank were Is 9d dearer at 54s fid.
