TROTTING FRIENDLY TOM IN DEMAND
Second Leg At Addington
Friendly Tom looks to have a great chance of extending his record in races with a flying start when he contests the Peninsula Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow. The Smokey Hanover five-year-old will probably start favourite for this race, which is the second leg of the T.A.B. double.
Friendly Tom has not started since February 11, when he made the pace and was run down by Buchanan at the end of a fastrun mile. Friendly Tom has drawn No. 6 at the barrier and if he gets clear early, he should make a bold bid to run most of his rivals off their feet.
Stereo Scott will also be in demand and she will be a firm second fancy. She has
won six races this season, the last three in succession. She will be meeting much sterner opposition than in any of her other races. Added to that, she has drawn the second line. Even so, her chances are highly rated. Landlord has paced splendid races at his last two starts, finishing fifth at Oamaru from 48 yards and sixth at Washdyke last Saturday after starting from 24 yards. Last week he looked most unlucky when he did not work clear properly until the race was almost over. Landlord looks ready to win at short notice and he could
figure in the finish of this race.
Chief Command, Frosty Heather, James, Nbcatchem, Spry and Vantage are Others capable of taking part in the finish, but a peak run from Friendly Tom should give him a win.'
The Canterbury Park Stakes will be the first leg of this double. Mighty Chief and Le Chant appearing to dominate the eight-horse field.
An on-course concession double will be run on the May Stakes and the Mobile Stakes. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
