Sabell's Best Form Should Be Soon

Sabell, winner of two races In the spring for J. L. Barr's stable shaped as If he would soon recapture his best form In a gallop at Rlcearton yesterday. Something like one of his best runs would make him one of the stronger chances in the Waimate Cup tomorrow.

Sabell yesterday ran a mile in Imln 49sec on the No. 6 grass to beat his Waimate Cup rival Tsunami by half a length. They were ridden by their race riders, E. G. Low (Sabell) and G. W. Mein (Tsunami) and were not allowed to dawdle in the home straight. The laat three furlongs took Msec.

Earlier, the Waimate Cup favourite Manana (D. Tucker) made a leisurely start from the mile, but was allowed more rein to sprint his final three furlongs in Msec. He took Imin 55 2-ssec for his mile, but he had been given a more strenuous run earlier In the week.

Hayman was another Waimate candidate tried at a mile, and he did not do at all badly in his solo run to record Imin 51 4-ssec for the distance, and 38

Status Symbol (Mein) and We'll Find Out (G. Cutlery) recorded Imin 20 3-Ssec for six furlongs and 40 4-ssec for the final three furlongs. El Keba (R. K. Moir) recorded Imin 54 2-ssec for his mile, aulckening for the last six furlongs in Imin 24 2-s«ec and the final three In 41 1-Ssec. He shapes as if he will manage a bit of ground, and his chance Is In the Waitaki Gold Cup Hack Handicap at Waimate.
