HAZARD TO TRAFFIC
Concern About Intersection
The Paparua County Council’s concern about traffic hazards at the intersection of Kirk road, Trents road, and the Main South road at Templeton is shared by the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee. The council took up the matter with the Ministry of Works in August, 1966, when Improvements suggested by the Transport Department were passed to the Ministry with a recommendation that early action be taken. Since then nothing had been done, the committee was told this week. Members agreed that the intersection should be inspected, and a report made to the next meeting of the committee.
In a letter from the safe driving award committee of the Transport Department the committee was Informed that the number of entrants in the scheme this year would be more than double that of last year.
The General Manager of the New Zealand Railways Department bad decided to enroll all Railway Road Services drivers—more than 800, and, continued the letter, discussions had also begun with the New Zealand Post Office, which employs 1300 drivers. All local safety committees had been asked to obtain entries for the scheme within their areas.
