Cowdrey, showing all his old form, scored an unbeaten 87 to steer Kent to 206 for three in its English county cricket championship match against Somerset on Wednesday. Cowdrey hit 13 fours and seems poised for his first century of the season. The Kent captain figured in an unbroken fourth wicket stand of 98 with A. Knott (46 not out). C. Milburn (Northamptonshire) pressed his claim for a test recall when he hit 67 in an opening stand of 102 with R. Prideaux against Leicestershire. Milburn, who was dropped by England because he was overweight, helped his team reach 108 for one before a heavy storm ended play for the day. Scores: At Castleford: Gillette Cup knock-out—Cambridgeshire 43/8 lost to Yorkshire 4S/4 by six wickets. At Derby: Derbyshire 94/3 v. Sussex. At Ilford: Essex 159/7, v. Worcestershire. At Gravesend: Kent 205/3, v. Somerset. At Northampton: Northamptonshire 108/1 v. Leicestershire. There was no play In other matches: Hampshire v. Nottinghamshire. Glamorgan v. India, Middlesex v. Gloucestershire, Warwickshire v. Surrey.
