No Time For N.Z. Visit

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 25. The Duke and Duchess of Kent—due in the South Pacific early next month for the coronation of the King of Tonga—have declined an invitation to pay a brief visit to New Zealand, because of insufficient time.

Announcing this tonight, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said he had been advised by the Governor-Gen-eral (Sir Bernard Fergusson) last night, that although New Zealand’s invitation was "warmly appreciated,” the Duke and Duchess would not have adequate time to make even a brief visit

“They have regretfully been compelled to decline the invitation,” said Mr Holyoake.
