Emotionally Disturbed Children
Sir, —How extraordinary that mothers should so often emerge as villian!” "Parent” suggests that all women applying for marriage licences should have had a course in child psychology, etc. No-one should have to be reminded that men came into the picture in a marital set-up, and are as responsible as women for the emotional well-being of their progeny. The basic requirement of any child, surely, must be an awareness of the parents’ love for each other. Fear or lack of trust could not invade this child. Most parents love their children, but appear to detest and mistrust each other. How confusing for a child! Yes, women dream their dreams. Men do, also. For the sake of their children, would that they could “tread softly” on the tender fabric of their partners’ dreams. Nightmare mar riages might thus be avoided. —Yours, etc., CONCERNED. May 25, 1967.
