CLOSING OF HOSPITAL
Position At Lyttelton When the North Canterbury Hospital Board was told yesterday that application would be made to the Health Department for the permanent closure and disposal of the Lyttelton Maternity Hospital, the chairman (Dr. L. 'C. L. Averill) reported on the board’s recent meeting with Lyttelton residents. “We certainly tried to explain the board’s position,” he said, after commending the attendance of 50 on “a very wet night” The meeting had decided to approach the department, and there the matter rested, said Dr. Averill. The board agreed to tell the department that old people from the Teresa Green Home had been transferred to Lyndhurst, and to make formal application to close the home and dispose of the property.
