Position At Lyttelton When the North Canterbury Hospital Board was told yesterday that application would be made to the Health Department for the permanent closure and disposal of the Lyttelton Maternity Hospital, the chairman (Dr. L. 'C. L. Averill) reported on the board’s recent meeting with Lyttelton residents. “We certainly tried to explain the board’s position,” he said, after commending the attendance of 50 on “a very wet night” The meeting had decided to approach the department, and there the matter rested, said Dr. Averill.
