COURSE IN SPEECH
Student speech teachers were given a one-day experimental course at the Elmwood school by the Canterbury branch of the Association of Teachers of Speech and Drama.
Mrs D. Hunt, of Christchurch, gave a demonstration lesson on poetry speaking with a group of 13 to 15-year-old children, and the students took prepared lessons with the group. Mrs J. Harrison, of Blenheim, demonstrated and commented on the teaching of mime and movement to tl to 12-year-old children. Dr. J. Moffat, of the Christchurch Teachers’ College, held a seminar on teaching and emphasised that a teacher's “self knowledge” was more important than his knowledge of his pupils and his knowledge of his subject
