LEADERS WEAK ON FIRM ACTIVE MARKET
Leading shares weakened on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday, but again rises were ahead of falls and trading was more active although the range narrowed.
Most price movements were small, but B.H.P. followed the easier trend overseas and lost Is to 69s 6d. Among the rises I N.Z. Newspapers featured with a gain of 2s, to 31s 6d, and Neill, Cropper notes, Is 9d higher to 245. was another outstanding move. Alex Harvey gained 6d, to 28s 3d, on good profit news, and Bell Radio, at 17s 6d, Knightsbridge Carpets, at 8s 3d, and New Zealand Refrigerating deferred shares, at 9s 9d, rose 3d each. N.Z. Sea Products, at 4s Bd, and Rothmans, at 20s 3d, each added Id. Some notable falls were: Ballins Id to 10s 3d, Associated British Cables 3d to 20s 3d, C.F.M. rights Id to Is 3d, Fletcher Id to 16s 3d, New Zealand Breweries 2d to 13s 2d, and N.Z. Refining 3d to 47s 9d. Business Personal Mr K. B. Gross, a director of Mount Isa Mines, Ltd., has been elected a councillor of the Australian Mineral Industries Research Association.
