FISHING BOARD
Christchurch Meeting The New Zealand Fishing Industry Board is holding its first meeting in Christchurch. The chairman (Mr I. Cook) said last evening that the board had adopted a policy of meeting outside Wellington whenever possible so that it could see representatives of the industry and all others interested in fishing. There was a growing awareness among the people of New Zealand that fishing was one of the primary industries, and one that could earn valuable overseas exchange, Mr Cook said. What was not always realised was that fish, like any other primary product, had to be processed before it reached the eventual consumer, and processing cost money.
While the board is in Christchurch it will meet fishermen at Lyttelton and see the Christchurch fish auction market.
