MOSCOW’S VIEW
(N.Z. Preee Assn.—Copvrtpht) MOSCOW, May 24. In a carefully-worded statement of support for Arab countries in the Middle East crisis, Russia said last night that it was doing its utmost for peace but would resolutely resist aggression. The statement, as summarised by Tass news agency, stopped short of promising direct support to the Arab countries now facing Israel in a tense situation. It left unclear what the Soviet Union might do in case of war, but made it plain that any conflict would, in the Kremlin’s view, be the result of Western encouragement to Israel.
