Fare Rise Effect
The extra 6d to be charged on Saturday taxi fares from this Saturday would only partially meet the increased cost erf petrol, licensing fees and vehicles, the president of the Canterbury Taxi Proprietors' Federation (Mr J. M. Doody) said yesterday. Commenting on the announcement of the charge by the Commissioner of Transport (Mr R. J. Polaschek), Mr Doody said the increase would probably meet about half the extra costs caused by the “mini-budget.”
