Vietnam Orphanage Appeal
Sir, —May I record sincere thanks to anonymous givers of money, clothing, and toys towards our Vietnamese orphanage appeal? Individual acknowledgement has been made except where a sender's name on a wrapper has become obliterated. Launched in November, 1965, by members of the V Force and extended last September as the Staff Sergeant Grigg’s Vietnamese Orphanage Appeal, the appeal has transferred £lOO and over 1000 lb of cotton clothing and toys to Saigon by the R.N.Z.A.F. to alleviate the extremely substandard conditions existing at the Bien Loi and its seven affiliated orphanages. Apparently, on the recent South Vietnamese festival day of Tet, when a distribution of these gifts was made, it proved to be a most heartwarming experience for the New Zealanders present to see the reactions of the children; and the V Force Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel R. H. Smith, leaves us in no doubt of the very deep appreciation being felt at the Orphanage.—Yours, etc., (Miss) STELLA F. EGAN. Rppyptarv Auckland, May 22, 1967. ’
