MOTORIST GAOLED
Failed To Stop (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 23. A man was gaoled today for nine months and his driving licence was cancelled for five years on a series of driving charges. He is Vincent Patrick Sturmey, aged 26, a petty officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy. Yesterday Sturmey pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to careless driving causing the death of a seven-year-old boy on April 12. He pleaded not guilty to failing to stop after an accident, failing to ascertain whether anyone was injured and failing to render assistance. Today, Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., entered convictions on all charges. He sentenced Sturmey to three months’ imprisonment on the careless driving charge and nine months’ on the charge of failing to stop after an accident, the sentences to be concurrent.
