W. J. Hillis Charged
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. W. J. Hillis, the rider of Macdonald in the Seddon Hurdles at Te Rapa on Saturday, was charged with failing to ride the horse on its merits. Statements were taken from the stipendiary stewards, Messrs H. P. Duncan and J. A. Foulsen, and from the assistant stipendiary steward, Mr J. A. Taylor. A film of the running of the whole race was viewed by the judicial committee.
After taking evidence the committee found that the case against Hillis was properly brought. It commended the stipendiary steward for the full investigation that he gave the matter.
On the evidence submitted it decided to give Hillis the beneflt of the doubt
