TROTTING Stereo Scott Wins Sixth For Season

Stereo Scott graduated to 2:13 class and gained her sixth win for the season with a decisive win in the President’s Handicap at the Timaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting at Washdyke on Saturday. Stereo Scott began splendidly from 12 yards, but was five places back on the inside when the field settled down.

Stereo Scott was still awkwardly placed racing to the straight, but an opening came outside the furlong and she seized it in a few strides. Major Bright had established what looked likely to be a winning break at this point, but he began to shorten stride inside the furlong. Stereo Scott gathered him in without too much effort and came on to win handsomely by a length.

Stereo Scott was a firm favourite after her runaway win in the North Otago Pace at Oamaru a week earlier. She paid £3 19s 6d for a win and £1 18s for a place. Trained by her part-owner, R. E. Roach, at Addington, Stereo Scott was driven by T. L. Thomas, for whom she always goes kindly. She Is a four-year-old mare by Larnie Scott from Knapdale Lass. She has been entered for the Pensinula Stakes, a restricted free-for-all at Addington Raceway next Saturday evening, but is unlikely to start She will probably

be put aside until next season.

Major Bright, after being close to the pace all the way, paced a useful race for second, a head in front of a solid finisher. Vantage, which was just in front of Stereo Scott for most of the way.

Prospector, which ran on gamely over the last furlong, was a useful fourth half a head from Vantage, with two lengths to Meadow Bank, which shaded Landlord. Then there was a gap to the tiring early pacemaker, Chaman. Chief Command was handily placed to the straight, but stopped, finishing twelfth. Black Tulip, Sir Charles, Happy Sam and Mon Arnie gave ground at the start

First Win Glen Vale gained his first win since being secured by Mrs V. B. Milne, of Christchurch, when he drew away in the run home to beat Norlight in the May Handicap, the second leg of the main double. The Stereo Scott-Glen Vale combination paid £149 6s 6d for £l. Glen Vale made all of the pace and drew away in the run home to win by three lengths from Norlight Lee was late working clear and was a length and a half away fourth, with a neck to Vaggi

and a head to Finesse, which was clear of the others. The favourite Trader Horn, was never pacing well and finished sixteenth. The surprise 2/4 favourite, Queensway, was slow away. She sprinted up to be second racing to the straight but dropped out and finished eighth. Lustre Scott was another well-backed runner to lose ground at the start Pacing Simba and Rhyl formed the successful favourite combination in the oncourse double, paying £9 16s for £l. The Pacing SimbaBold Chief concession combination paid £5 16s 6d for £l. Pacing Simba’s win was a splendid effort. He was slow away and raced against the outside fence for the first furlong. He came from near the tail of the field at the halfmile to win with ease. There were surprises in the two-mile races for maiden pacers. The first was won by Arkle at odds of almost 40 to 1, while Sally’s Song, at odds of almost 16 to 1, won the second. Erin’s Smile added to a fine record for consistency with a good win over Phenoma and the tiring Hialea in the Stewards’ Handicap. Erin’s Smile has taken time to become solid. She should not be long adding to her record for her Oamaru owner-trainer, F. G. Brinsdon.
