SOLDIER HURT
Walking On South Road A soldier was seriously injured when he was struck by a car while walking on the Main South road half a mile north of Burnham road about 7.20 p.m. on Saturday. He is Michael Thackeray Bradford, aged 18, of Burnham Military Camp, whose parents live at 119 Arapuni street, Putaruru.
He suffered head, chest, internal and leg injuries and shock. After being treated by Lieutenant-Colonel J. F. Moodie, he was taken by the Burnham Camp ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital and was admitted to the recovery ward. Late last evening he was on the seriously ill list and his condition was reported to be fair. Mr Bradford was one of three soldiers walking south on the Main South road towards Bumham Camp when he was struck by a car being driven south. He was carried a short distance on the bonnet of the car and then fell to the road.
