SUBMARINE ATTACKED
Chilean Sea & Air Hunt
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SANTIAGO, May 21. A Chilean Navy destroyer attacked an unidentified submarine in Chile’s territorial waters after following it by radar for several hours, according to a naval communique issued in Santiago. Air Force planes made week-end patrols along Chile’s northern coast after the attack last Friday which apparently did not damage the submarine. The communique said the submarine. The communique said the submarine was first sighted off the northern port of Iquique.
It did not detail the weapons used by the destroyer but they were believed to be depth charges.
