Jamboree In Brisbane

Between 300 and 500 New Zealand scouts and venturers will probably go to the eighth Australian jamboree at Brisbane from December 28 to January 7, 1968. The Commonwealth Chief Scout (Sir Charles Maclean) will attend the jamboree. The jamboree is open to New Zealand scouts and venturers between the ages of 14 and 18. Those eligible must have obtained their first-class badge by November 1. The jamboree camp will occupy 500 acres of natural bush on the banks of the Brisbane river. There will be six sub-camps, with amenities such as shops, canteens, banks, post office, hospital, and a security service.

Tours to Surfer’s Paradise, the Cuurrumbin bird sanctuary, the sugar cane and pineapple plantations, a ginger processing factory, and other places of interest around Brisbane will be arranged. Displays will Include scout uniforms from all parts of the world and an extensive stamp collection. Entertainment will also include an Australian gang show. State displays, and a New Year’s Eve camp fire.
