DEBUTANTES AT ANGLICAN BALL

Fifteen debutante* were presented to the Bishop of Christchurch (the Right Rev. W. A. Pyatt) and Mrs Pyatt by the wife of the Dean of Christchurch (Mr* M. L. Underhill) at the Anglican Ball in the Winter Garden last evening.

Massed arrangements of autumn-toned chrysanthemum* decorated the foyer and the ballroom. Potted plants adorned the supper room and hanging plants festooned the dance room.

Miss Cornyns Thomas trained the debutantes. They were: Gail Andrews, St Chad’s, Linwood; Annette Robinson, St. Nicholas’s, Spreydon; Susan Tyler, St Chad’s, Linwood; Jeanette Burton, St Christopher’s, Avonhead; Merilyn Thompson, St. James’s, Cust; Lesley Harrison, St James’s, Riccarton; Mary Williamson, St John’s, Latimer square; Jan Snelson, St Chad’s, Linwood; Margaret Mackenzie, St. Chad’s, Linwood; Judith Roseveare, St. Paul’s, Papanui; Dianne Fuldseth, All Saints, Burwood; Suzanne Begbie, St. Peter’s, Upper Riccarton; Lynda Reese, St. Matthew’s, St Albans; Sue Thompson, St. James’s, Cust; Sharon Goodman, St Peter’s, Upper Riccarton.

Specially invited guests included: The Ven. H. M. Cocks (Archdeacon of Christchurch) and Mrs Cocks; the Ven. H. E. Norris (Archdeacon of Tirnaru) and Mrs Norris; the Ven. S. E. Woods (Archdeacon of Rangiora and Westland) and Mrs Woods; the Ven. W. M. Davies (Archdeacon of Akaroa and Ashburton) and Mrs Davies; the Ven. R. P. F. Plaistowe (Archdeacon of Sumner) and Mrs

Mrs A. Pyatt wore a turquoise chiffon frock, cut on Grecian lines, with a draped bodice. Mrs M. Underhill wore a dark blue velvet skirt with a pale blue lurex bodice, cut in a deep V-back and front.

Miss E. Cornyns Thomas's gown of electric-blue satin was cut on straight lines.
