SPINNING AND WEAVING DAY.—The Hei Hei Community Hall was crowded with absorbed spinner, weavers, and knitters who exchanged advice and learnt new techniques at an all-day function open to all interested in learning a new craft or simply indulging in a favourite hobby. Activities included a demonstration of the use of hand spindles, knitting and weaving straight from the fleece, and lectures on the use of fleeces, spinning and home dying, and, weaving. Timothy Simpson, aged 11, and Helen Brice, aged six, are shown above demonstrating their skill with hand spindles.
