CLAY ON BAIL

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) HOUSTON (Texas), May 9. Cassius Clay was free on a $5600 bail today, accused of refusing to submit to call-up in the United States Army.

The 25-year-old fighter, stripped of his title by United States boxing authorities on April 28, was allowed to keep bis passport and is free to travel throughout the United States as a Black Muslim minister.

He pleaded not guilty before a Federal grand jury on a charge of failing to submit to the call-up—an offence that could mean five years in prison or a fine of $lO,OOO dollars or both.

A new promotional organisation announced plans to set up an elimination tournament among eight leading heavyweight contenders to find a successor to Cassius Clay. Mike Maiitz, president of the new organisation, called Sports Action, Inc., said contracts for the four proposed matches to start the tournament had been posted to the eight fighters.

Canadian Pledges. The Canadian Government at the opening of Parliament today pledged again to cooperate in the establishment of an international peace force in Vietnam and to increase foreign aid substantially. Ottawa, May 9.
