FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression Is centred north of the Tasman Sea. A ridge of high pressure extends from south-east Australia to the North Island. Pressures are low to the south of the South Island. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Westerlies strong at times in some inland areas, but winds mostly moderate about the coast with partly cloudy weather apart from showers in the Alps; moderate temperatures. Outlook: scattered showers are still likely, chiefly about the main ranges.

Nelson and Marlborough.—Westerlies becoming fresh in exposed areas; partly and rather mild. Outlook: mainly fine.

Buller and Westland.—South-westerlies fresh at times; some further showery periods but fair intervals. Outlook: scattered showers still likely chiefly about the ranges.
