Giuseppe di Stefano

Sir,—The itinerary arranged by the N.Z.B.C. for Giuseppe di Stefano leaves much to be desired, and is just another instance of the bureaucratic inefficiency of this body. Five of the recitals of this worldfamous tenor are to be in the North Island, only one in the South Island. The exclusion of the South Island from Dunedin northwards is neither excusable nor justified, and as visits by such renowned artists are few and far between, the N.Z.B.C. has shown its complete disregard for patrons in the greater part of the South Island and Christchurch in particular. If this is the best that the N.Z.B.C. can organise, I suggest that future tours by world-famous artists be placed in the hands of competent organisers.—Yours, etC " OPERA FAN. May 4, 1967.

[Mr K. M. Hay, district manager of the N.Z.8.C., replies: “Your correspondent’s strictures are not supported by the facts. We tried to arrange a recital in Christchurch as soon as we knew the dates of this artist’s visit to New Zealand; but the only

suitable halls had been booked by other organisations and we were not able to negotiate an exchange for any date that could be fitted into his itinerary.”]

Transistors On Buses Sir, —“M.T.” associated my name with the letter on this subject on Friday. The writer was "Socrates.”—Yours, etc., SOPHOCLES. May 9, 1967.
