CLOUD AT AIRPORT

No Flights By 1X23

Low cloud at Christchurch caused four National Airways Corporation flights to be cancelled yesterday and almost every aircraft using the airport was delayed through having to make an instrument landing. Christchurch was closed to all DC3 flights. The cloud was down to 200 ft at times. Two DC3 flights due from the south were forced to continue to Wellington from where passengers were brought back to Christchurch on other aircraft. Only nine Christchurch passengers were affected.

A special DC3 flight from Christchurch to the North Island was cancelled. Some passengers were accommodated on later ordinary flights and on a special flight which left at 8.10 p.m. In the afternoon a DC3 flight from Blenheim to Christchurch was cancelled. Passengers were taken from Blenheim to Wellington from where they were later flown to Christchurch.
