TWO DIE IN FIRE

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 7. Two middle-aged men died when fire swept through a two-storey rooming house in Newtown, Wellington, early this morning. The house was completely gutted. Late tonight police had not contacted the dead men’s relatives and were unable to release their names. One man’s nearest relative is believed to live in Scotland.

Ten other occupants in the house escaped uninjured. Mr William Stanley Vokes, a 71-year-old pensioner, leapt to safety from a veranda about 15 feet from the ground. His only Injury was a cut hand.
