Tuna Plans In Islands

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) RAROTONGA, May 7. A major New Zealand foodstuffs company may finance a £40,000 fish freezer and cannery at Rarotonga, the administrative centre of the Cook Islands, according to the islands’ Premier (Mr Albert Henry). The company, Islands Foods, Ltd., conducted a 12month survey at Rarotonga which proved there were adequate supplies of albacore and yellowtail tuna suitable for canning and supplying to New Zealand and overseas markets. The Premier said during an interview that to date only preliminary plans had been discussed between his Government and the food company. If the plan is carried out the freezer and cannery will be constructed at Avatiu Harbour.
