Devlin Refuses To Leave U.K.

(From the London crspdt. of “The Press”) LONDON, May 7. “I am going to sit here and stick to my guns,” said the New Zealand pop singer, Johnny Devlin, yesterday—the day by which he was told by the Home Office to have left Britain. Although his employment voucher will have expired, Devlin says he intends to continue his regular job at the Empire Ballroom in Leicester Square. This week his latest record, “Hurting,” will be released by C.B.S. Records and is going to be played a good deal by Radio London, a pirate station, and perhaps by others.

“There is the possibility of

some appearances by me on television shows,” said Devlin. “If they say I have to go to gaol I’ll bloody well go to gaol. I know I have done nothing wrong—l was wrongly informed about work permits by the British High Commission in Sydney. “I am definitely going to stay here and keep working.”
