NO SITE FOR TANK.—Because of difficulties in finding a suitable site, this locally-made oil tank, which was to have been taken to the Chathams by the Holmburn earlier this year, has been left near the waterfront at Lyttelton since construction was completed by Sherlock and Cotton, Ltd, last January. Nine tons in weight and 20ft wide by 16ft 3in high, it holds 30,000 gallons, and is fitted with a specially-made steel sledge to allow it to be hauled ashore when a site has been agreed on at the Chathams. The tank, built to the order of Mobil (Oil), New Zealand, Ltd, cost £3OOO.
