League Teams Announced

Canterbury has only three players —J. Bond, R. Irvine and W. Noonan—in the Southern Zone Rugby League team to play the touring Queensland side in Christchurch next Sunday.

Of the team and reserves named yesterday, Wellington supplies seven players and West Coast five. The team, selected by Messrs L. Blanchard (Canterbury), R. Church (Wellington) and W. Mountford (West Coast), is: W. Harrison (Wellington), G. Scully (West Coast), L. Brown (West Coast), J. Bond (Canterbury), M. Brereton (West Coast), G. Woollard (Wellington), R. Irvine (Canterbury), N. Beri (Wellington), C. O’Neill (Wellington), W. Noonan (Canterbury), K. Dixon (West Coast), G. Smith (Wellington), A Dennehy (West Coast). Reserves: back, R. Strong (Wellington); forward, R. Farrell (Wellington). The Queensland team, announced in Brisbane yesterday, will be without its captain, J. Gleeson, who suffered a badly jarred left shoulder in Saturday’s final trial, according to an agency report. Gleeson had his shoulder X-rayed. No fracture was revealed, but the league’s medical officer told Gleeson that he would He out of action for three weeks. The 18 players named for the two-match tour are: Backs: B. Laird: D. Jago. B. Queensland will open its short tour against a Northern Zone team at Auckland on Saturday. After the match in Christchurch, the New Zealand selectors will announce the 26 players to tour Australia.
