Lyttelton Harbour Board

Sir,—Mr Brand Is reported as saying that the present setup of the Lyttelton Harbour Board is like a farmer living in Christchurch and running his farm out of the district. There can, of course, be room for an honest difference of opinion on this statement. To take one example only, there must be very good reasons why shipping companies have always retained pffices in

both Christchurch and Lyttelton. Another matter on which differences of opinion could arise is whether a system which, permits a farmer member of the board living 50 to 60 miles from the port and visiting Christchurch or Lyttelton two or three times a month can give the best results.—Yours, etc., CHARLOTTE JANE. May 5, 1967.
