Pilots With Two Jobs

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, May 7. The British Airline Pilots’ Association has criticised airline pilots who do part-time jobs during their rest periods. It said that they were impairing safety. “Any member who may be tempted to earn extra cash by flying during allotted leave or rest periods is advised to stay on the ground,” said an editorial in the association’s magazine, “The Log.” People employing off-duty pilots were able to pay them lower wages than if they were on permanent contract, thereby obtaining cheap, highly qualified labour. “Pilots in full employment with one company, and freelancing with another, are quite possibly keeping fellow pilots out of work—a situation we cannot tolerate.”
