It is not very comforting reading, but an Australian report quotes an English trade journal of high repute as estimating that by the end of this year total world production of the various man-made, non cellulosic fibres will be about double the world’s production in 1965.

"It then goes on to examine the chances of selling this avalanche of synthetic fibres and comments that it would be no small task to find new markets. However, it goes on to point to the carpet industry in which the success of synthetic fibres has been ‘sudden, swift and phenomenal.’ This must make comforting reading for shareholders in the synthetic industry worried by over-pro-duction, large stocks and falling prices. “For the grower of coarse crossbreds, however, it is the true explanation of this year’s price collapse for his product

Elsewhere the same report says the coarse Argentine crossbreds are still being sold at 10 to 15 per cent below comparable New Zealand wools.
