“A coconut development scheme in Fiji, backed by Britain, is to be stepped up considerably because of the excellent response to the original plan” reported Dick Pixley in the 8.8. C. World Service programme “The Farming World.” “This was begun in 1963 and provided for the planting, replanting and improvement of some 4000 acres a year. Now the target is for 60,000 acres Of new plants, and a supplementary grant as a 90 per cent contribution to the additional cost has been made from Colonial Development and Welfare funds.”
